WASTE BUT NOT TO BE WASTED: COMPOSTING
WASTE BUT NOT TO BE WASTED: COMPOSTING
Most of us generally dumped waste, just like that without thinking about the consequences in future. What word can be termed for this kind of attitude?
“Laziness” “Unawareness” or “Carelessness”
You only know what is the answer for this question? But let me tell you one thing that all of your waste mostly goes in landfill and some quantity of that waste are treated but not all. The problems arise here is the Groundwater contamination and Global warming in landfill sector.
There are many health and environmental issues that are presented by landfill waste:
- Toxins
A lot of the different materials that end up in landfill contain toxins that are eventually released and seep into the soil and groundwater. These substances are major hazards to the environment and can last for several years.
- Leachate
It is a liquid that forms when landfill waste breaks down and water filters through that waste and picks up toxins. Rainfall falling on the top of the landfill is the greatest contributor of leachate.
- Greenhouse gas
Organic material such as food scraps and yard waste are usually compacted when they are put into a landfill. The problem is that this removes oxygen and causes the material to break down an aerobically. Over time, the process will produce methane: a type of greenhouse gas that is 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide and wreaks havoc on our environment.
Composting is one of the process in which micro-organism decomposes organic matter into valuable manure called as compost.
Phases of composting:
Initial decomposition is carried out by mesophilic microorganisms which rapidly break down the soluble, readily degradable compounds.
- As the temperature rises above about 400C, the mesophilic are replaced by thermophilic, at temperature of 550C and above, many micro-organisms that are human or plant pathogens are destroyed.
- During the thermophilic phase, high temperature accelerate the breakdown of proteins, fats and complex carbohydrates like cellulose and hemicelluloses, the major structural molecules in plants.
- Temperature gradually decreases and mesophilic microorganisms once again take over for the final phase of curing or maturation of the remaining organic matter.
Benefits of compost:
- Compost improves the quality of soil and for this reason it is considered as soil conditioner.
- It contains a variety of the basic nutrients required for healthy growth of plants.
- In addition to nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium, certain micronutrients viz. Manganese, copper, iron and zinc also found in compost which helps them to control diseases and insects.
- Compost improves the structure and texture of the soil enabled them to retain nutrients, moisture and air for the betterment of growth of plants.
Conclusion
Aside from the financial impacts, waste that is buried in a landfill will break down slowly and present problems for future generations. Composting is one option which is available, to avoid these consequences. Dry waste can be recycled and wet waste can be compost. There are numerous ways for composting but if you are natural preserved kind of attitude person than my green bin is a better option for you. The time it takes to decompose is very less and that too no smell. Recycling the waste with fungal inoculums, which is important as decomposers that help in retaining soil nutrients and moisture.
All decomposition process is done by using microbes. It can convert your organic waste into organic manure, which in turn you can use it in gardening purposes.
Let’s do our duties responsibly from today onwards and segregate our waste.

The example about the mattress sizing page you mentioned in the last WBF can be a perfect example of new keywords and content, and broadening the funnel as well. I can only imagine the sale numbers if that was the site of a mattress selling company.
